The Lower Columbia River Water Trail Committee has accomplished a great deal since initiating development of the trail. Below is a list of some of its achievements and on-going actions.
- Operate as a committee of the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership, with support and guidance from Estuary Partnership staff
- Received a two-year award of technical assistance from the National Park Service Rivers and Trails Program to help plan the trail
- Published a trail brochure and visual presentations in 2003 for public use and distribution
- Received $8,560 National Park Service Challenge Cost Share Grant for producing detailed maps of the water trail route, support facilities, and trail resources.
- Planned and coordinated 7 Open Houses hosted by communities in each reach of the river
- Inventoried more than seventy existing waypoints along the trail
- Developed an interactive web site (www.columbiawatertrail.org) to provide paddlers with trail information, paddling conditions, and detailed site information
- Coordinating with planning efforts to link the Lower Columbia River Water Trail with the Northwest Discovery Water Trail (from Bonneville Dam to the Clearwater River)
- Coordinating with Lewis and Clark Bicentennial planning events and activities
- Developing a series of Water Trail Paper Maps
- Created a Water Trail Poster
- Currently producing a Water Trail Master Plan to guide management of the trail and development and improvement of waypoints
- Collecting letters of support from site owners and trail partners to use for future collaborative grant opportunities and trail projects
