Kelley Point Park Slough Launch(launch)
Unimproved non-motorized launch near the mouth of the Columbia Slough and the Willamette/Columbia confluence. Funds have been secured to provide a small paved parking lot, drop off areas, and ramp to a floatign dock but site improvements are not likely to be complete until the Fall 2007. Launching from Kelly Point Park is not allowed. New Englander Hall Jackson Kelley (1790-1874), was one of the most vocal advocates for Oregon in the first half of the nineteenth century. In 1828 he published Settlement on the Oregon River, and nine more pamphlets on a similar theme over the next 40 years. A bit deranged, Kelley visited Oregon briefly in 1834. He spent the rest of his life bitterly trying to win notice - and payment - for having sparked American intersest in the Pacific Northwest. |
